Street Gardens of Port Sainte Foy

the streets are filled with hanging baskets

Today is officially the first day of summer here and the sun has come out and the temperature is up to 30 deg C so it must be true.

I took a walk around the block to show you what the local commune workers have been making through the winter ( and it has been a long wet one this year) to decorate the little gardens on street corners around the village.

swallows in flight ?

For some reason  “birds”  are again the theme.  Last year it was bird houses, the year before it was wicker birds.

This year someone has been very clever with metal.

and we have done our bit to help decorate the street again

We are looking forward to the annual Repas sur le Pont (dinner on the bridge) on 1st July. It will be the tenth so a milestone worth celebrating.  The weekend vide greniers and brocante markets are back in full swing and the marchés gourmands (night dinner markets) started again last week in villages all over the area. And, of course, the motorhomes have arrived on the roads en masse.  Yes, it must be summer.

Les Epicuriales

Took the opportunity to visit this Bordeaux food fair during my niece’s visit this week as we've never been before.  Allées de Tourny was looking quite festive even though the weather wasn’t fabulous. We were a bit late for lunch as everyone else was leaving, but since the fair is open from 11.00am to 1.00am that didn’t appear to matter.

lots of colour

always plenty of choices

each restaurant is decorated just like the real one

The idea of the fair is that a group of local restaurants each takes space and sets up a dining area where they can offer examples of their food. No paper plates and plastic cutlery here please. It is all very stylishly presented and there are lots of choices.

can just imagine this place jumping at night

I understand it can get very lively in the evening and one of the restaurants even had a 'disco' ball !

It may be flooding in Paris but Bordeaux can still put on a show.

à bientôt mes amis
